Frequently Asked Questions

About LCU Online™

  • Can I start any time or are there specific semesters I must enroll within?
  • You can start at any time. LCU Online™ students operate independently from the semester system used at Main Campus.
  • Can I obtain my Master's or Doctoral degrees via LCU Online™?
  • Yes. See our page on Degree Programs.
  • Can I take LCU courses if I don't want to pursue a degree?
  • Yes. There are usually two reasons for people to study at LCU without pursuing a degree:
    1. You desire spiritual growth on the highest level possible, but have no need of a degree. In such cases, you may earn Certificates of Completion of each program without having to provide proof of high school graduation.
    2. You have not graduated from high school and therefore cannot qualify to enter a degree program. Since the work you will be doing is the same either way, you may complete a GED program (high school equivalency) at any time after starting LCU, submit proof of completion, and then have your completed certificate coursework converted into degree credits at no charge.
  • Can I obtain a degree in majors other than theology, pastoral ministry, and Christian education?
  • Not at this time. LCU Online™ will be releasing courses for additional majors in the future. Some majors, such as Christian counseling, require extensive supervised lab work and therefore will not be offered online.
  • What is included in each course?
  • When you enroll in a course, you will be sent your books, a course syllabus, DVDs of the class lectures, your final exam, and a Student Coursework Completion Affidavit that must be signed and submitted along with a your final test and any research papers required by the course when you return the DVDs.
  • Are there any tuition discounts or scholarships available?
  • Yes, immediate family members attending LCU at the same time will receive a 25% discount on each program. For example, a husband and wife attending at the same time each pay $120 per course, instead of $160. The same would hold true for any grouping of parents and children or multiple children.

NOTE: Children who have not yet graduated from high school may attend by special permission. Credits earned will be held in reserve in a Bible institute program until the student graduates from high school. Upon presentating proof of high school graduation, the completed courses will be converted to college credit and any appropriate degrees will be issued.

NOTE: Family discounts are available to LCU Online™ and Main Campus Students only.

  • How will I know what my grade was for a course?
  • You can view all your courses and their grades from the Student Support page.
  • How long do I have to finish a course?
  • 60 days plus an additional 30-day grace period. If you extend into the grace period, a $10 Change of Grade (from Incomplete) Fee will charged. Once you exhaust the grace period, you will have to re-enroll in the course and pay 50% of the course tuition in order to get credit for the course. (see the Student Policies chapter of the LCU Online™ Student Handbook & Course Catalog for details).
  • Are allowances made for extenuating circumstances?
  • Yes. Such situations are handled on a case-by-case basic.
  • May I begin before you have my college transcripts?
  • Yes. You have 60 days from enrolling in your first course to send your original sealed transcripts for advanced placement credits. After the 60-day period, a $35 Reassessment Fee will be charged.
  • May I finish a course quicker than the alloted 60 days?
  • Yes. You may go as fast as you wish.
  • What do I need to do to begin?
  • See our page on the Application Process.
  • How do I track my academic progress and update my own student records?
  • You can log into the Student Support page of this website to update your student contact info as well as examine your academic records.
  • Where can I obtain student forms online?
  • These are also available on the Student Support page of this website.
  • How do I obtain access to the Student Support page?
  • When you are sent your first course after applying to LCU Online™, you will be issued a Student ID#. Once you have your Student ID#, you will be able to establish access to the Student Support page. You will be asked to enter a password of your own choice (though there are some password construction rules you will have to follow) when you create your student account.
  • Who has online access to my student records?
  • You, period.
  • Who has access to my password?
  • You, period.
  • What if I forget or lose my password?
  • If this happens, you will have to use the mechanism we've provided for solving that problem. Once there, you'll enter and submit the email address you entered when you established your LCU Online™ account. A temporary password will be assigned by the system and sent to that address. Once you sign in with your new temporary password, you will have to establish a new permanent one of your own choosing (certain password construction rules will apply).
  • What if I want/need to change my password?
  • Again, we have a mechanism for this purpose. Once you've successfully logged in using your existing one, you can click a link to change it.
  • What if my email address changes or my name changes because I got married?
  • Again, we have a mechanism for this purpose. Once you've successfully logged into your LCU Online™ account, you can click a link to change your name, email address, or both.
